Sales & Marketing
Sales and marketing hiring remained relatively active in 2022. Sales talent was in high demand across varying seniorities, specifically individual contributor roles.
Sales hiring activity was particularly active within technology and financial technology start-up companies. Meanwhile, companies were less active in hiring marketing & communications professionals in 2022. A large pool of senior marketing candidates was impacted by lay off’s in 2022, mainly from within the hospitality and retail industries. It was challenging to find employment in the second half of 2022, moving into 2023. Companies shifted their focus to look for mid-level online marketers in social media and e-commerce to drive their brand awareness and online business.
Outlook for 2023
We expect sales and marketing candidates to be less conservative in job searching than in 2022. However, candidates are generally quite optimistic with the deconstruction of Covid restrictions, border re-opening, and increasing numbers of incoming tourists bringing more business. As a result, they expect a more active job market in 2023.
Key skills expected to be in demand include online marketing, e-commerce, market research &consumer insights and software sales since consumer behaviours have shifted online post-pandemic time. Clients need to be open-minded in acquiring talent. There remains a good pool of candidates with the transferrable skillset but not the industry experience to suit a role perfectly. Clients often prefer candidates from the same industry who can hit the ground quickly and often overlook some very adaptable and talented individuals who could transition industries successfully and flourish in their new roles.
Candidates across sales and marketing will continue to prioritize flexibility, relocation opportunities and company stability alongside compensation and brand recognition.
